Reminiscing of art school lectures and I always recall Polykleitos’ Canon, in which he used math to proportion the human body. Doryphoros is what this image is inspired by, a Roman copy of Polykleitos. His book Canon is lost to history and his bronzes and marbles only survive in Roman copies.

Today I still use his Canon in referencing anatomy and taking liberties here and there. Waaay.
