I admired or envied the relationship western movies have bestowed upon horse and rider. They are in sync or unreliable until the last second.
What drew me initially to Fritz Scholder's work were the two color blocks encasing a figure.
My pops told me you have to use a horse reference, even if it looks like it only has three legs. So I look for horses that have clearly four legs. Lol.
In grad school at OU, they rotated artwork in the main entrance to the school of visual arts. One rotation had a long duration of a lonely horse. The students referred to it as the three legged horse and they either loved it or hated it.
